The British Institute of Funeral Directors is responsible for the registration, training and examination of tutors who wish to prepare students for the Foundation Certificate in Funeral Service and the Diploma in Funeral Directing Examinations.

In order to become a Registered Tutor of the Institute it is necessary to complete a course of study and be successful in an examination set by a panel of examiners consisting of experienced tutors and qualified members of the teaching profession. In addition Registered Tutors are required to attend at least one teaching seminar every two years.
